If you're using PowerSMS Carbon in MacOS 8 or 9, you need to install Carbonlib which can be downloaded here from Apple, http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120047

What's this?

PowerSMS is a program to send SMS (text) messages to mobile phones. In addition to just sending messages, it has a bunch of useful functions:

* Phone book. You can easily keep track of your friends/customers and organize them in groups. The auto-fill feature prevents you from having to enter the numbers with country codes every time you add a new number.

* Outbox. This is where sent messages are saved for future reference.

* Support for multiple SMS gateway accounts. This means you can easily send messages through your favorite gateways directly with PowerSMS, without having to log in manually each time.

* E-mail to SMS. PowerSMS can check out e-mail and forward the messages you desire to your mobile phone.

* Filter function. Allows you to not have spam and/or mails from e-mail lists forwarded.

* AppleScript support enables almost all other applications that also support AppleScript to be integrated with PowerSMS.

Quick Start

1. Register with www.sms.ac.

2. Enter your sms.ac details (login and password) in the preferences in the Gateway accounts tab.

3. Add friend(s) to your phonebook.

4. Select "New Message".

5. Type your message in the window that appears and select recipients.

6. Click "Send".

7. After the SMS has been sent, a window telling you the status of the messages will appear.

E-mail to SMS Quick Start

1. Enter you e-mail preferences; server, user name and password. If your server requires you to connect on a certain port (as opposed to the standard port, 110), you can specify this by adding ":portnumber" after the server address, i.e. pop3server.com:109.

2. Check the box labelled "Check for mail every n minutes" and enter a number of minutes.

3. If you have joined e-mail lists or something similar, you can tell PowerSMS not to forward certain mail. To do this, check the box labelled "Do not forward all incoming mail" and then click the "Edit criteria" button next to it. Entering the criteria shouldn't be a problem.

Hints

* Double-click a user in the Quick SMS list in the main window to quickly open a new message window addressed to that user.

* Enter the phone numbers with a country code, such as +46703514573. To make this easier, use the auto-fill option.

* Double click an entry in the phonebook to edit it.

* You can resize the fields in the Outbox by grabbing the bar between them (although the cursor doesn't change).

* Send messages with Enter (not return). In future versions you'll be able to choose which key(s) to use.

* To avoid ads appended to your messages by certain gateways, check the “Fill with spaces” button in the preferences. For sms.ac, this will fill the remainder of the message with dots instead of spaces.
* You can add new users to your phone book directly from the New message window by clicking the “Add” button.

What to be included in future versions

- Support for additional SMS gateways.

- A scheduler for sending messages at a later time.

- Mail me any suggestions you might have!

Known bugs/limitations

- You can only send SMS's to networks supported by those gateways that PowerSMS supports. See their homepages to see which ones they support.

- The groups aren't sorted alphabetically, they are listed in the order you added them.

- Occasionally, international characters appear as triangles in the mobile phone. If this happens a lot, check the “Replace international characters” box in the preferences.

- International characters in mails sent by, for example, Outlook Express are not decoded correctly. Note that Eudora mails are decoded correctly though.
